Ludiente lies in the Alto Mijares region, at around 430 metres above sea level, in the heart of the valley of the Villahermosa river, one of the most picturesque tributaries of the Mijares. Its landscape is typical of inland Castellón, with irregular terrain, mountains all around and many scattered farmhouses. Even its name, of pre-Roman origin, seems to refer to water.
A walk through its streets reveals traditional rural architecture, with the church of the Nativity of Our Lady as its most notable building. The area preserves the remains of Ludiente castle, the Bou Negre castle between Ludiente and Argelita, and the Giraba tower, all listed heritage sites. Its trails lead to spots such as the Pozo Negro, a waterfall of crystal-clear water from the Villahermosa river, and the Valentina spring.
Of Muslim origin and tradition, Ludiente suffered severe depopulation after the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609, from which it only began to recover in the 18th century.
Today its population is mainly devoted to farming. Ludiente is a perfect destination for hiking, river swimming and the peace of mountain villages.

In summer, Ludiente celebrates its patron saint festivities, the time of year when the village fills with locals, their families and summer visitors. Religious events in honour of the patron saint are combined with open-air dances, communal meals and activities for all ages in a friendly, family atmosphere.
