Puebla de Arenoso lies in the Alto Mijares region, at around 626 metres above sea level, surrounded by higher mountains. Its municipal area of 42.7 km² stretches along the Arenós reservoir, and its population is spread between the main village and the hamlets of Los Calpes, Los Cantos and La Monzona. It is about 77 kilometres from Castellón, 110 from Valencia and 70 from Teruel.
The village and its farmhouses invite you to explore a landscape where water and mountains meet, with paths and viewpoints over the reservoir that are ideal for hiking and enjoying nature.
Its history begins at the castle of La Viñaza, later called Arenós castle, where the Arab population flourished, although the first inhabitants were Iberians, as shown by fragments of pottery. In the first half of the 13th century King James I drove the Arabs from the castle, which had as many as 200 houses, and Christian settlers arrived, mainly from Aragon. In 1271 a settlement charter was granted to ten settlers, and around 1317 the population moved to flatter ground, the present village. In the early 20th century it had almost 2,000 inhabitants, before successive waves of emigration.
Puebla de Arenoso is today an ideal destination for anyone seeking calm, nature and inland landscapes by the water.

During the week of 21 September, Puebla de Arenoso celebrates its patron saint festivities in honour of Saint Matthew and Our Lady of Loreto. Open-air dances, communal dinners and lunches, religious events and children's games bring locals and visitors together.
